Kyran McLaughlin (74), one of the biggest shareholders in stockbroker Davy, last year stepped down from his role as head of capital markets at the firm, to be succeeded by AIB CEO Bernard Byrne. He is to remain as deputy chairman of the company. Once dubbed the most powerful man in Irish stockbroking, McLaughlin's stake in Davy is estimated to be worth well in excess of €50m. As a Ryanair director during a turbulent period he survived a challenge to his seat on the airline's board but some investors were clear in their opinion that nine years is too long a stint.
