Denis Desmond (65) and Caroline Downey (57) have made a fortune from food to music, theatre and smart investing throughout their years in business.
Last year they effectively sold half of their promotion company, MCD Productions, to the global music giant, Live Nation. The deal is still being examined by the competition watchdog. Cork native Desmond had been involved in takeaway chain Abrakebabra, but exited the business in 2015 after a refinancing deal. He runs the UK and Ireland operations of the US events and ticketing firm Live Nation, which jointly owns a UK firm, LNGaiety, with him. Caroline, meanwhile, has been successful as the manager of Wicklow hit singer-songwriter Hozier, who has been making a tidy sum of his own from his music.
They also have interests in the Gaiety and Olympia theatres in Dublin and the Limelight in Belfast. Previous earnings, asset sales and over €60m in dividends also add to their wealth.
