Dublin-born former assistant bank manager Brian McCarthy (74) founded Fexco in Killorglin, Co Kerry in 1981. It employs 2,300 people around the world and owned a large stake in Goodbody Stockbrokers which was sold to Chinese investors for over €150m last year. Fexco also owns a minority stake in Airborne Capital, an aviation leasing firm.
McCarthy's children, Denis and John, now own their father's shareholding in the business, which processes more than €14bn of transactions a year. Its last accounts for 2017 showed a cash pile of €181m, with €314m of accumulated profits. It booked a €19.3m profit on €211.8m of revenues.
