Kilkenny-based entrepreneur Terry Clune (46) owns the Taxback group which processes overseas tax reclaims for everyone from multinationals to backpackers. It is estimated to be worth close to €300m.
Wicklow-born Clune is also believed to have retained a majority stake of fast-growing money transfer business Transfermate, in which AIB invested last year, at a valuation of between €250m and €300m. This dramatically increases his wealth, given that at one stage he owned 80pc of it. However, another of his projects Connect Ireland, which rewarded people for creating jobs in Ireland is locked in a bitter dispute with the IDA about the number of jobs created.
