Former investment banker Barry O'Callaghan (48) saw his fortune wiped out in the crash but has been rebuilding his wealth ever since. The Cork man built up Riverdeep and then Houghton Mifflin Harcourt into one of the world's biggest online publishers before the bond-holders moved in. He has since sold his majority stake in Rise Global to Bain Capital for $140m and also owns the five-star Cliff House hotel. His baccalaureate school in Leopardstown will charge up to €24,000 a year for second-level day pupils when it opens in September.
