Wicklow brothers Noel (72), Max (73) and Malcolm (65) McMullan own Maxol, a fuel sales and distribution business which dates back to the 1920s. The last three years have seen the business concentrate on its petrol station and forecourt operations and in most recent accounts the directors said they were well on the way to making it the most profitable forecourt business in Ireland and the UK. It owns over 110 petrol stations, while 130 others are operated under the Maxol brand. The firm had revenues of 570m in 2015, according to figures filed last September, with profits of 11m. Dividends of 3m were paid over the last two years. Based on valuations for rival group Applegreen, the family is sitting on a very valuable business.
