Peter (78) and John Queally (80) set up Dawn Meats with their partner Dan Browne in 1980 and it has grown to be one of Europe's largest privately-owned companies. Dawn has about 20pc of the Irish beef market as well as a major European presence, including a 49pc stake in French company Elivia. The main company is unlimited and so does not file accounts but back in 2006, sales topped 900m.
Sales at their Arrow group were up 12pc to almost 500m, generating pre-tax profits of 26m. Other assets in the family include a sewage treatment firm, the Glenpatrick Spring Water company, five-a-side football pitches, pet foods and commercial property.
