Eddie Jordan set up a racing team in 1991, ultimately selling out for around 75m in 2005. The Monaco-based Dubliner has spent a lot of that money on luxury Sunseeker yachts, owning nine in 22 years. The latest one cost 43m, with the 155ft beast having its own nightclub on board. Jordan put a chunk of money in the Clareville Capital hedge fund, which has made 39pc returns over the last five years.

He's also one of the backers of Debrett's — the style and etiquette bible of British blue-bloods. He owns a small stake in an Irish food company group, Valeo Foods, which bought biscuit-maker Jacob's in 2011. He is a member of a consortium that invested more than $400m in 432 Park Avenue, a $1.2bn skyscraper being built in New York, where apartments will cost between $17m and $95m.
