Low-profile private equity baron Fitzpatrick (49) runs the €4bn Mayfair-headquartered Capvest buyout fund. It has assets ranging from Scandinavian crisp companies to a Norwegian dustbin firm. Fitzpatrick has been very active in Ireland, helping to squoosh a number of food brands, including Jacobs Fruitfield, Odlums and Batchelors Beans into the Valeo Foods vehicle. It was close to a €600m IPO in 2014.
Capvest is also one of biggest shareholders in €500m-valued Mater Private. Cavan man Fitzpatrick is also an investor in Ireland's only commercial gold project at Clontibret. With exceptional timing, he spent €7m to buy a swish house on Shrewsbury Road as the IMF came to town.
