Former teacher Ronnie Wilson (67) is now an industrial-sized mushroom-grower, the biggest player in the domestic market, and the Monaghan man is rapidly taking control of the UK market too.

His unlimited company Pleroma is thought to have sales north of €275m and a court case valued a 30pc stake in the company at €30.6m. Some 75 truckloads a week leave the Monaghan HQ for retailers ranging from M&S to Supervalu and Tesco.
