Sexually transmitted diseases are big business for Antrim med-tech group Randox, which provides blood testing diagnostics for about 20pc of all the laboratories in the world.

The privately held company was set up by Dr Peter Fitzgerald (65) in a chicken coop at the back of his parents' garden in 1982. Pre-tax profit dipped slightly to €9.6m last year.
