Sexually transmitted diseases are big business for Antrim med-tech group Randox, which provides blood testing diagnostics for about 20pc of all the laboratories in the world.
The privately held company was set up by Dr Peter Fitzgerald (65) in a chicken coop at the back of his parents' garden in 1982. Pre-tax profit dipped slightly to €9.6m last year. Fitzgerald spent €7m to buy the grade 1 Dundarave estate and stately home on 549 acres near Bushmills. Estate agents described the grounds as having "an excellent shoot".
