Former roadie for the Beatles, Griffin (73) set up the Addison Lee cab and transport business in the rough and tumble 1970s.

He sold it to Carlyle for €357m in 2013, pocketing close to €180m for his 50pc stake. Griffin, who also worked on the Michael Caine classic The Italian Job, splurged on a €25m mansion in Belgravia as well as investing in a Brazilian iron ore mine. The adopted Mayo man has also pumped €20m into the roll-out of Irish TV, a TV station for the diaspora.
