Sligo-based solicitor Monahan (67) is one of the PV Doyle Hotel heirs.

Along with husband Ray, Monahan and her family invested heavily in property right at the top of the market. Last year they bought back some of son Neil's borrowing from Ulster Bank at an 82pc discount. The family's Monti Property had €300m in assets spread from Poznan to Cabinteely. We assume that there's debt on these and that values have fallen pretty sharply. The Monahans also own the Terra Monti vineyard in Languedoc as well as Sligo's best pub Hargadons.
