Blending insurance with the internet as a sales channel made broker Richardson phenomenally wealthy. The 54-year-old Dubliner sold 123.ie insurance to RSA for €82m, netting €52.5m. He moved to Monaco for a bit and then returned to the UK to buy Premiership rugby club Wasps.
Richardson is trying to turn the club into the biggest beast in the UK market and has moved the club from its London home up to the Ricoh Arena in Coventry. He raised €49m from fans and investors in a bond - the first retail sports bond - to fund the move.
