Dubliner Brian McCarthy built up Killorglin-based Fexco into one of the country's most succesful private financial services companies. Fexco alumni include Monex owner Frank Murphy and Gerry Barry who sold Fintrax for €170m, so there is clearly something in the water there.
Last year McCarthy gave his 39pc stake to his children Susan, Denis, Ruth, Elizabeth and John McCarthy. The company had net assets of €297m last year. He took a stake in employee share scheme administrator Global shares plc but also has interests in property, tourism and media assets, as well as a big fishing boat.
