Dubliner Regent (49) was the top paid chief executive in Canada in 201, earning €17.

7m running Barrick - one of the world's biggest gold companies. He picked up €9m in compensation when he left after a boardroom wrangle. Previous career earnings are bigger than previously estimated and are likely to have topped €35m. Regent, who moved to Canada as an infant, raised a bundle of money from investors and Sovereign wealth funds to set up Toronto-headquartered resources buyout group Magris. It splashed out €350m to buy the Niobec mine in Canada two years ago.
