Former motor racing journalist McNally (83) made an absolute mint from Formula One by cornering the market for glitzy corporate entertainment and trackside advertising.

His Allsports Group, set up in the early 1970s, made profits of as much as €140m in one year running the exclusive Paddock Club corporate entertainment business. McNally sold the business to CVC in 2006, netting around €275m. Swiss business magazine Bilan estimated his wealth at close to €580m during the boom times. The Donegal man once dated Sarah Ferguson, before she married Prince Andrew. McNally lives in an estate in Wiltshire formerly owned by Ian Fleming, has a home in St. Tropez and three huge chalets in the swish Swiss ski resort of Verbier.
