Jay Murray (71), a former Telecom Eireann engineer, was a pioneer in the development of text messaging. Remember them? He has developed and sold more companies than most people have had hot meals.
Wessel Cable and Murray telecoms were sold in the early 1990s before big cheques started to arrive. Telecoms Aldiscon netted him €30m in 1997. Two years later Apion was sold for €240m. In 2005, Aepona was also sold. Murray’s Gibraltar-based Mayfair Ventures firm has invested in property in the West End of London as well as backing start-ups and tech firms. The Howth man is also involved in waste-to-energy technology firm Cynarplc.
