Gemma Maughan (74) and her family control the sprawling Convest group, which sells everything from Peugeot and Honda cars to Senator Windows and Franke kitchens and Breville toasters. It has been buffeted in the downturn with sales at their Convest holding company dropping from €330m during the boom down to €104m last year, when a €5.5m loss was shipped.
Shareholders’ funds dipped slightly to €62m last year. Universal Honda had shareholders’ funds of almost €13m. The Shrewsbury Road residents also own some valuable art and property assets as well as a blue-chip share portfolio.
