Foxrock-based Maher (53) owns around 45pc of the country’s largest mobile phone distributor Fonua, via his holding company Balable.
Vodafone also owns 49pc of the business. Former Vodafone Ireland board member Maher led a management brought from the Doughty Hanson-owned 20:20 mobile business in 2010. Sales hit €291m, although profits slipped to €5.9m. Dividends of €12m have been paid in the last two years. Serial entrepreneur Maher is also behind the Homestore & More retail chain, which made €5.1m in profits at its 13 strong group of stores. Parent company Ogalas has €21m in shareholders’ funds.
