Former punk rocker Geldof (63) has been incredibly shrewd with his career outside music.

The Boomtown Rats made him a decent nest-egg but the real fortune came away from music. He made about €8m from the sale of the Planet 24 TV production business in 1999 and in other media, technology and commercial firms. He is involved in Africa-focused private equity group 8 Miles Llp, which has backed a couple of local enterprises. However, the big earner has been from reality television. Geldof owns one third of TV firm Castaway, which developed the global hit Survivor. He has shared in close to €35m in dividends over the last decade. Geldof owns homes in London and Kent.
