Retail sales volume drop 1.5pc in April reporters

RETAIL sales volumes fell 1.5pc in April and dropped 2.7pc on an annual basis, new figures from the Central Statistics Office show.

If car sales are excluded, the volume fell 1.8pc in April compared with March and 3.8pc compared with the same period last year.

The biggest decreases were in hardware, paint and glass and department stores.

Increases were recorded in sectors like fuel and electrical goods.
