THE latest figures from CSO show that the volume of retail sales rose by 1.6pc in November, compared to October.

This was the biggest monthly increase since March.

However, the figures also show that annual retail sales were 0.8pc down in November when compared to the same time last year.

Sales of clothing, footwear and textiles rose by 7.2pc, while furniture and lighting increased by 4.5pc and electrical goods grew by 3.8pc in the month.

The figures also show that sales of fuel, bar sales and pharmaceuticals fell in November.

The CSO said the volume of retail sales rose by 1.8pc in November compared to October 2011, when motor trades are excluded.
