FIGURES for the last three months of 2014 showed sales growth of 4.2pc, the biggest gain in the sector since 2007.

The Retail Excellence Ireland survey showed most sectors benefited with jewellery the best performer with a 15pc hike in sales with tourism contributing to the increase.

Other strong sectors included fashion and footwear but others like pharmacy fall.
