Retail competition to heat up in Stillorgan

Competition for Stillorgan consumers looks about to heat up in Dublin's southside. Treasury Holdings has applied for planning permission to convert its Bondi Nite Club building into a convenience store and this may appeal to one of the German discount chains.

A Treasury spokesman says the 1.3 acre site, which has the advantage of a high profile location overlooking the N11, has attracted "considerable interest from a number ofretailers".

The move follows a planning application from Neil Durkan to locate a similar store in the nearby shopping mall next to the AIB branch. Meanwhile a Treasury spokesman says that a major international fashion retailer is expected to shortly sign up for a store in the Stillorgan Shopping Centre.

Donnybrook Fair is also opening a new store there.
