Pre-tax profits at the flagship pub and restaurant business operated by one of the country's best-known publicans, Declan O'Regan, last year increased marginally to €973,151.

Accounts for the 12 months to the end of May 2016 filed by O'Regan's Telfer Ltd, which operates Hogan's bar and L'Gueuleton restaurant on Dublin's South Great George's Street, show pre-tax profits increased from €967,962 to €973,151.

Mr O'Regan, who is a brother of the late entrepreneur and publican Hugh O'Regan, saw revenues at the company increase by 4pc from €7.58m to €7.88m

According to the directors' report, they are satisfied with the year's results.

Telfer Ltd also operates O'Regan's Kelly's boutique hotel on South Great George's Street.

Mr O'Regan has also expanded his business interests in the area with the operation of a bar and restaurant at the nearby Drury Buildings.

Operating profits at Telfer last year dropped by 2.5pc, from €1.21m to €1.18m.

The higher pre-tax profits last year arise from net interest payments of €214,715 in 2016 compared to €251,163 in 2015.

Numbers employed by Telfer last year increased from 92 to 98 with staff costs going up from €2.29m to €2.48m.

The figures show that staff numbers were broken down into 87 in sales and 11 management.

The figures show that Mr O'Regan, Maeve O'Meara and Jacob Kalaparampil shared remuneration of €104,000 last year - remaining at the same level as directors' pay in 2015.

The firm's profits take account of non-cash depreciation costs of €372,208.

The accounts show that at the end of May last, the firm had shareholder funds totalling €8.15m that included €6.3m in accumulated profits.

The firm's cash during the year declined from €1.15m to €374,314.
