Provisional liquidator appointed to Irish business division of JJB Sports

KPMG’S Kieran Wallace has been appointed as provisional liquidator to the Irish business division of JJB Sports, the British retailer which went into administration earlier today.

The division comprises four retail stores and two gyms based in Dundalk, Limerick, Blanchardstown and Liffey Valley – it employs 102 people.

The retail stores and gyms will in the meantime remain open on a “business as usual” basis.

Mr Wallace will now move to sell the business and assets of JJB Sports in Ireland as a going concern.

Meanwhile, JJB Sports said it had agreed to sell 20 stores to rival Sports Direct for almost £24m, although 2,200 staff at its remaining shops would be made redundant.
