Profits at O'Connell firm jump to €1.38m
Accumulated profits at the commercial firm owned by Irish rugby legend Paul O'Connell during the final year of his illustrious playing career climbed to €1.38m.
That is according to new accounts which show the cash pile at Mr O'Connell's Nellcon Ltd reduced marginally, from €1.288m to €1.274m in the 12 months to the end of April 30 last.
The iconic figure of world and Irish rugby retired from the game last year after sustaining a severe hamstring injury in the 2015 World Cup game against France.
Off the pitch, the accounts show that Mr O'Connell was busy in the commercial world with his firm investing €75,000 in a financial asset during the year. In the year to the end of April last, accumulated profits at O'Connell's firm increased by €72,534 - going from €1.307m to €1.380m.
This followed an increase in profits of €72,891 in 2015 and €143,627 in 2014.
The directors of the firm are Paul O'Connell and Michael O'Connell and the aggregate pay to directors last year increased from €21,000 to €36,158.
The firm employs two and the pay for staff, including directors, last year increased, going from €45,000 to €58,358.
The staff received an additional €89,171 in pension contributions resulting in total pay for the two between pay and pensions totalling €147,529.
Mr O'Connell has been a talisman for Munster and Ireland over the past decade and won his 100th cap against Wales in March 2015.
