Primark wears retail award well
Primark, which trades as Penneys in Ireland, has won the Multi Market Retailer of the Year award at the Oracle World Retail Awards 2010, which were presented in Berlin.
The retailer, which operates in Ireland, the UK, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium, won out against Aldi, AS Watson, Costco, Mango and Tesco, which were also shortlisted.
A jury of retailers and senior industry experts vote on the award-winners.
"We are extremely pleased to have won this award, particularly since we have been chosen by our peers in retailing," said Paul Marchant, chief executive of Primark.
"This is testament to the hard work of our 33,000 staff and our customers for continuing to shop with us."
Primark has recently won a number of other accolades. In Spain it received the Premios Excelencia Award and Dubliner Arthur Ryan, chairman of Primark, won an award for Outstanding Contribution to Retailing.
