Plant to create 325 jobs

THE economy received a major boost yesterday with confirmation that a US biopharmaceutical firm is to start construction next year on a hi-tech €70m-plus manufacturing plant that will create 325 jobs, writes Ralph Riegel.

San Diego-based Sangart -- a world leader in blood and sickle cell disease treatments -- is to build the new facility at an IDA park in Carrigtwohill in east Cork.

The plant will mean over 125 jobs during the construction, scheduled for early next year, and 200 production jobs when it is in operation -- expected to be in 2015.
