Paddy Power Betfair linked to Oz rival

Gambling giant Paddy Power Betfair has refused to be drawn on reports that it has had talks regarding a possible acquisition of Australian online betting site CrownBet.

The Australian business is part of James Packer's Crown Resorts gambling and entertainment group.

News agency Reuters reported yesterday that Paddy Power Betfair had held talks about a possible acquisition of CrownBet, which is also being circled by UK bookmaker William Hill. Crown Resorts owns 62pc of CrownBet.

A spokesman for Paddy Power Betfair declined to comment.

Paddy Power Betfair has a major gambling operation in Australia with its Sportsbet division, which is the biggest online operator there.
