The Boston-based firm has set its sights on Europe
US INTERNET company CSN Stores has brought much-needed good news to Co Galway with the announcement that it is to create a European base and 200 jobs in the county.
Staff will be needed to fill roles in customers services, IT and sales and marketing over the next three years, the company said this week.
IDA Ireland welcomed the announcement as a 'significant boost' to the city which was hit by hundreds of job losses at local firms Thermo King and APW recently.
CSN’s chief financial officer Nicholas Malone praised the local workforce which, he said, was part of the reason why the company had opted to locate its European base in the city.
CSN Stores LLC, headquartered in Boston, is an online retail company which offers over 1m products for sale.
Established in 2002 it employs 450 staff in the US but has recently opened online shops in Canada and the UK.
It operates over 200 websites, including AllModern.com, Cookware.com, Luggage.com, BedroomFurniture.com, CSNLighting.com and Strollers.com.
Meanwhile, the sod was turned on a site at Drinagh, Wexford, earlier this week for a major new plant for world beverage leader Coca-Cola.
Around one hundred jobs will be provided at the new Coca-Cola manufacturing plant at a cost of €200m on a 41-acre site in the IDA’s Drinagh Business and Technology Park. It is expected that the facility will create about 60 jobs after a year and more than 100 jobs after five years of operation. Construction of the facility should mean work for 100 builders.
The announcement was made by Coca-Cola president and chief executive Muhtar Kent who travelled to Wexford to turn the first sod with Taoiseach Brian Cowen.
