Office supplies group Lyreco is investing €34m in a new head office and distribution facility in Rathcoole, Co Dublin and intends to hire an additional 50 staff here – a roughly 50pc increase in the workforce.

The French-headquartered business distributes office supplies, personal protection equipment and other workplace products and has been in Ireland since 1970.

Lyreco said its new premises will be the largest of its kind in Ireland, with vertical storage technology and 50pc additional capacity on site.

The business supplies around 10,000 products to private and public sector clients in retail, industry, hospitality, healthcare, construction, and education.

The expansion of the company’s Irish operation is expected to contribute to a doubling of sales turnover in the next two to three years.

High specification logistics has emerged as the most dynamic corner of the Irish commercial property market in recent years as a result of general economic expansion and in particular the shift to online sales and delivery.

While traditional retail rents and property values have been under sustained pressure, the industrial and logistics sector is seeing sustained investment and rental growth.

Logistics values rose 2pc in the first quarter of 2022 and 15pc over the 12 months, according to the most recent MSCI/SCSI Ireland Quarterly Property Index.
