No change in retail sales in month-on-month comparison - CSO

There was no change in the volume of retail sales in October month-on-month, but an annual comparison sees an increase of 4.5pc.

Excluding motor trades, there was a decrease of 0.3pc in the volume of sales, comparing October 2017 with the month previous.

Over a 12 month period, with the exclusion of motor trades, there was a 6pc increase in the overall sales figure.

Largest monthly increases were see in the Pharmaceuticals Medical & Cosmetic Articles (7.3pc), Fuel (1.3pc) and Clothing, Footwear & Textiles (1.3pc) sectors.

Meanwhile, Books, Newspapers and Stationery (-2.5pc), Electrical Goods (-2.1pc) and Other Retail Sales (-2.1pc) reported the largest decreases in a monthly comparison.
