Nintendo revives game pipeline
NINTENDO is turning to a network of 1.8m programmers, including hobbyists, to try and revive its game pipeline. The company has formed an alliance with Unity Technologies, a San Francisco-based maker of software that lets programmers adapt games to different machines. Working with Unity will help widen options for customers of Nintendo's Wii U.
Sales of the Wii U have been far below initial estimates. This is partly due to smartphones and tablets, which many casual players now use instead of consoles.
