A new service that helps companies recover the value of their old IT equipment is expected to return over €250,000 to users over the next year.

Hard drive and media shredding provider DiskShred, which specialises in providing secure on-site shredding services to companies including financial services, data centres and public bodies, launched the service in respond to customer demand.

"Our clients have responded well to the opportunity to recover the value of their old IT assets," Jeremy Bryan, brand manager, DiskShred, said.

"We have been able to help them to get cash back from their end-of-life assets, which often enables them to avail of our leading data destruction and shredding services free of charge."

To establish where value can be returned, DiskShred’s team conduct an audit of clients’ facilities; even without hard drives, servers and their parts can have value.

If value is recoverable from the equipment, the company seeks the appropriate buyer in order to achieve the "highest possible return" that will then be passed on to the customer.

"Having worked with companies throughout Ireland, the UK and Europe for the last number of years, we have found that companies are often not aware of the value of their old equipment," Mr Bryan said.

"This service will help us to find the return on equipment for customers, enabling them to reinvest the value recovered or benefit from our secure shredding service at no cost."
