New chairman for UCD's Smurfit board

Liam FitzGerald is to assume the role of chair of the Irish Advisory Board of UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School in January.

The former CEO of United Drug Group succeeds Niall FitzGerald following the completion of his four year term.

Appointed by the University President, Liam FitzGerald has been an active member of UCD Smurfit School's Irish Advisory Board since 2006.

"I want to thank Niall for his tremendous contributions in establishing UCD Smurfit School as one of the world's leaders in business education," he said.

"Under Niall's leadership, we have set ambitious goals and clear direction for the future.

"I am excited to lead this dynamic group as we contribute to programmes that equip students to solve global challenges and create resources that positively impact teaching and learning at the highest levels."

Orna Ni Chionna assumes the role of deputy chair.
