It's a great time for consumers to shop around for a cheap hotel break as Ireland's hotels are all vying with each other to attract customers.
All hotels are promoting special offers both for the weekends and during the quieter week nights.
The huge number of cheap deals has angered hoteliers who are trying to compete with bank-run hotels, which they are worried will harm their business. In some cases, hoteliers who owe money to the likes of Bank of Scotland Ireland or Ulster Bank are working extremely hard to repay their loans whilst directly competing with one of the hotels their own bank is running and which is offering bargain-basement deals.
There are numerous great deals on offer. The five-star Killinard Heritage is offering a two-night weekend escape to include breakfast and one dinner for €220 per person sharing. The four-star Tulfarris Hotel is offering special €59 per person sharing deals that include an overnight stay with dinner and breakfast.
Among the four-star hotels, Whites of Wexford is doing a two-night special for St Patrick's weekend to include breakfast and one dinner from €189 per person sharing. Lisloughrey Lodge in Cong has a deluxe family package where children go free from €275 per person sharing that includes a five-course meal. The Blarney Golf Resort in Cork offers a deal where two people can enjoy a four-course dinner for €50 each and stay overnight for free. And the Clayton Hotel in Galway is offering what it calls "recession madness" deals that include two nights bed and breakfast plus one dinner from €109 per person sharing.
