American Basketball Hall of Famer Joe Dumars has joined the board of Galway firm Orrceo.
Orreco uses scientific methods to generate customised indicators of injuries, of optimal training regimes, and of recovery strategies for elite athletes.
It counts leading USA’s National Basketball Association franchises and players among its clients.
Mr Dumars had a 14-year career as a player with the Detroit Pistons and was a six-time NBA All-Star.
Orreco’s experience within the NBA has made it a global leader in basketball bio-analytics, developing a deep understanding of the relationship between biomarkers, wearable technology and performance analytics.
Dr Brian Moore, CEO of Orreco, said: “For an NBA legend of Joe Dumar’s calibre to join our board is an exceptional endorsement for Orreco.
We look forward to working with him to continue to grow Orreco’s role as a vital support to elite athletes, teams and sports organisations.”
Orreco, which has received support from Enterprise Ireland and other investors, also has offices in London and Los Angeles.
It works with other elite sports organisations such as US Women’s Soccer, USA Swimming, Red Bull High Performance, as well as English Premier League side Newcastle United FC and the Chelsea FC Women’s team.
In 2017 it created the FitrWoman app.
