Nationwide launches sterling savings plan

Nationwide UK (Ireland), a branch of Nationwide Building Society, has launched of a range of sterling savings accounts for Irish residents. Three sterling accounts are being launched for existing and new customers. Interest rates vary between 0.63pc and 1.5pc. There is a minimum deposit of £10,000 (€12,500).

Science start-ups pitch to investors


SOME of Europe's top science start-ups will gather in the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin this July before an international panel of investors for 'Investing in Science 2012'. Twelve start-ups will be chosen from a Europe-wide competition that was launched this month. An international panel of investment-focused judges will pick the strongest ideas with the winners pitching to venture capitalists and angel investors in Dublin on July 11.

Whiskey galore for celebration week


THE inaugural Whiskey Week, a celebration of one of Ireland's most successful products, was launched yesterday by representatives of three of the country's leading distilleries -- Irish Distillers, Grants and Cooley Distillery. Running from the May 21-26, Whiskey Week will feature events celebrating uisce beatha at the country's leading distilleries as well as whiskey pubs and hotels around the country. Activities will include whiskey showcase events, tastings, food pairings, promotions and much more. The week commences with a unique tasting session in the Old Jameson Distillery led by master distiller Liam Donegan.

Charities expect cuts in Government help


FOUR out of five charities that receive Government help are expecting a decrease in funding over the next two years. Most expect a decrease of up to 10pc and the remainder expect larger decreases, a survey commissioned by accountancy consultancy Russell Brennan Keane found.
