Maurice Buckley appointed Office of Public Works chairman

Minister for public expenditure Pascal Donohoe has appointed Maurice Buckley as the chairman of the Office of Public Works (OPW).

Mr Buckley, who is a former chief executive of the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI), qualified from UCD with a masters of electrical engineering and later completed an MBA degree in INSEAD in Fontainebleau in France.

The new OPW chair also worked in Germany for six years in technical and management roles for Boston Consulting

“This appointment is one that I find very exciting and I look forward to leading the OPW into the next phase of its long and proud history.  I hope to bring the mix of international business and management experience I have gained during my career to help further develop this great organisation," Mr Buckley said of his new role.

Mr Buckley is joining the OPW at a stage where Catchment Flood Risk Management Plans are at consultation stage. He said he recognises the strategic value to delivering on the plans.
