Mars recall some Galaxy, Malteasers Teasers and Minstrels products 'due to potential presence of Salmonella'
Mars have announced the recall of a number of products due to potential presence of Salmonella.
A statement from Mars Chocolate UK and Mars Ireland on Friday afternoon said that Mars have taken the "precautionary step of voluntarily recalling certain products" due to the potential presence of Salmonella from the ingredients used in making chocolate.
"We have detected the possible presence of Salmonella from the ingredients used in making some of our Galaxy products, including Smooth Milk Chocolate bars, Minstrels and Counters and Teasers bars, whilst carrying out our routine testing process," read the statement.
"A small number of these products have been distributed, and although we've had no related complaints, as a precaution we have made the decision to voluntarily recall the products potentially affected by this issue in order to ensure the safety and confidence of our consumers."
In Ireland, the products affected are GALAXY COUNTERS (112g Pouch) with the best before date of May 13th 2018 and MALTESERS TEASERS (35g Bar) with the best before date May 13th 2018.
While the GALAXY Milk (200g Bar) with May 6th and May 13th 2018 expiry dates; the GALAXY Milk (4x42g Multipack Bars) with best before date of May 6th 2018; GALAXY Milk (42g Bar) with May 6th 2018 best before date; GALAXY COUNTERS (78g Treat Bag) with May 6th 2018 expiry date; MALTESERS TEASERS (35g Bar) with the best before date May 13th 2018 and GALAXY MINSTRELS 118g Pouch with May 13th 2018 expiry date are being recalled in the UK.
"The retrieval of this product is to ensure the confidence and safety of our consumers," a statement from Mars said.
"No other brands or varieties of chocolate, pack formats, bar sizes or best before dates are affected."
