March unemployment rate drops almost 1pc compared to same month last year
Seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for March was 6.1pc, unchanged from February 2018.
The rate reflects a drop of almost 1pc, down from 7pc in March 2017.
In terms of the number of people unemployed, the figure recorded last month of 144,400 dropped from 146,300 recorded in February.
Compared with March last year, the number of people unemployed saw a decrease of 19,100.
In March 2018, the unemployment rate was 6.4pc for men, a drop from 6.5pc the previous month and down from 7.3pc in March 2017.
The number of men unemployed last month was 83,100, down from 84,400 in February.
Meanwhile, the unemployment rate for women last month was recorded at 5.6pc, down from 5.7pc in February and a fall from 6.6pc in March 2017.
The number of women unemployed in March was 61,300, a decrease of 500 when compared to the previous month.
The youth unemployment rate (people aged 15-24 years) was 12.5pc in March 2018, down from 112.7pc the previous month.
