Madigan switches to GAA for online game launch
Ireland rugby star Ian Madigan has launched a new fantasy sports platform aimed at GAA and rugby fans.
The Ireland and Bordeaux out-half is the face of Gameday, a fan-focused gaming platform based on statistical analysis which allows users to compete against their friends for cash.
GAA Fantasy will be launched for this weekend's All-Ireland matches and will run until the culmination of the senior football championship in September.
Madigan believes the launch of Gameday will address a gap in the market for under-represented sports fans.
Speaking at the launch, Mr Madigan said: "When we first started this project it was from a frustration at the lack of stats openly available in rugby, and the lack of a representative fantasy game.
"We have had a great reaction to what we are trying to do now we see a very similar situation in GAA. GAA is a fantastic sport and with such a huge following it's amazing that there is such a lack of any meaningful stats."
The company has been developing the product for the past year, and says it has established a community of 20,000 users.
In addition, Gameday says that sports clubs will be able to use the platform to run fundraisers by creating competitive leagues among club members.
