Kildare Village has been granted planning permission for a €50m extension, which will see it add 29 new shops, two new restaurants and 460 additional car-parking spaces.

The 6,200 square metre expansion will bring the number of outlets at the discount designer village to 120. Brands at the village include French Connection, Armani and Ralph Lauren. The opening of a previous extension - in 2015 - saw the addition of brands such as DVF, Guess and New Balance, which brought the total number of stores to 95.

The discount designer outlet mall, which is owned by Value Retail, enjoyed sales growth of 21pc in 2016, following the opening of the previous €50m phase 2 extension in late 2015.

Footfall was up 27pc, with international visitor numbers and tax-free sales growing strongly.

The owners have also lodged another application for planning permission to Kildare County Council seeking 375 more car-parking spaces at the rapidly growing retail destination.
