Former Formula One racing boss Eddie Jordan (above) and cardboard box tycoon Michael Smurfit have emerged as major backers of AEP Networks, which was just sold in a near €60m deal.

British firm Ultra Networks bought the Irish technology company last week.

Jordan's Princella Investments and the Smurfit family firm Bacchantes were shareholders. Brian Long's Atlantic Bridge Ventures also turned in a tidy profit from the deal. Atlantic Bridge is backed by Dermot Desmond and Bill McCabe. Michael Tunney's Lioncourt Capital was also involved with AEP.
