Jobless figures fall in February but youth rate still high

THE seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for February 2016 was 8.8pc, down from 8.9pc in January 2016 and down from 10pc in February 2015.

However, the youth rate (those aged 15 to 24), was still relatively high at 20.1pc, down from 20.3pc in January, the latest figures from Central Statistics Office show.

The seasonally adjusted number of persons unemployed was 190,900 in February 2016, a decrease of 2,000 when compared to the January 2016 figure or a decrease of 23,400 when compared to February 2015.
