It's small beer but welcome
The long-awaited credit export scheme finally goes live next week after endless promises and delays. The guarantee itself is small beer.
It will only cover exports worth €150m a year, or less than a 1000th of the country's exports, but it is nevertheless a welcome sign that the Government has not forgotten completely about business.
One of the more encouraging signs is that the scheme is a close copy of the UK's guarantee scheme and the rate offered to companies in the South is the same as the rate offered to banks in the North.
Let's hope we steal a few more clever ideas in the months ahead to help other companies that need a hand.
