Irish high-tech security firm Netwatch expands workforce as it explores AI potential

The 10 new roles at Netwatch Visual Labs will be in software development, designing and creating applications for desktop, web and mobile platforms (iOS and Android).

Netwatch provides remotely monitored CCTV services to homes and businesses, with audio warnings that challenge intruders who cross the property's boundary.

One of the in-built capabilities of the firm's software is the ability to 'Plug in' to Artificial Intelligence (AI) processing platforms, currently being developed in Silicon Valley.

"We see this as one of the most exciting developments that could happen in our world, whereby intelligent algorithms can pre-process the video streams, and identify or classify the images therein," Niall Kelly, Netwatch CTO, said.

"There is automatic screening of activity deemed not to be a threat; perhaps a large animal crossing a perimeter, and then presenting the Netwatch Intervention Specialist with only real alarms that match the threat criteria for that site."

Carlow-based Netwatch, which also has offices in the UK and USA, has been continuously investing in its technology for remote video surveillance.

Elsewhere, MetaCompliance said it is to double its workforce in Derry over the next three years, bring the total number employed at the technology firm to 102.

The roles being created will be in the area of sales and IT, as the company implements a new sales model targeting prospective customers across Europe and the US.
