Irish entrepreneur Oisin Hanrahan will wait at least six months before expanding the geographical footprint of his online on-demand cleaning and handyman business – Handy - which has just raised $50m in funding.

The company operates in London and multiple locations across North America. Other services it provides include plumbing and painting.

“Handy hasn’t launched a single city in the last 18 months…the best customer experience, the best growth experience, comes from having density in every single city that you’re in, and we’ve been very focused on that,” Mr Hanrahan said.

“Really it’s going to be another six months of focus on how we continue to improve the experience in existing cities, so that whenever you come to Handy, it’s not 95pc of the time, it’s 99pc of the time when you do a search that you have a great experience.”

Mr Hanrahan added that the company is “just getting started” and wants to deliver every service to every home. He said he’s not thinking about selling the company, adding that it is focusing on big markets.

Handy raised the finance to expand the company’s services. The funding round leaves the company with an estimated valuation of $500m.
